Sometimes life has surprises in store that can alter the very core of our existence; bring modifications that we never thought were possible. One such great surprise or better to call it a gift that life offers us is to create and nurture a new life. The birth of my daughter made me do what I never thought was actually possible. Thanks to my bundle of joy I was finally able to stop smoking cigarettes.

It seems like just yesterday when the feeling of uneasiness made me finally make an appointment with the doctor. When I was tested positive for pleurisy, a lung infection caused by excessive smoking, it didn’t come as a surprise. Cigarettes have long become my morning cup of tea and my dessert after the dinner. Each painful breath could also not help me in giving up this addiction.
My doctor advised me to stop smoking cigarettes and to help in getting rid of this addiction prescribed me some antibiotics. But I thank her second instinct when my doctor advised me to get a pregnancy test done before starting with the antibiotics. And yes god surely had other plans in store as I was pregnant! The joy of sharing this news with my husband that we are soon going to be proud parents took over my every other emotion. The news of my unborn child made me finally quit smoking.
Today my daughter is two and I thank god everyday for his blessings. I thank god for the gift of my child which made me realize the negative impact of smoking. I still think it was the news of my becoming a mother that helped me in coming terms with the fact that I have to finally put an end to my addiction and stop smoking cigarettes. No amount of lung infection or painful breathing could have pushed me towards making this positive change in my life.
Indulge yourself in activities that divert you away from smoking.
I stopped smoking because I want to set a good example in front of my daughter. I want to be my daughters’ ideal and want her to keep away from this deadly habit. Suitable lifestyle changes helped me in overcoming this addiction and busy work schedule after my daughter’s birth helped me in keeping away this habit. My daughter is my inspiration and helps me in keeping this bad habit at bay. I was even able to squash some unlit cigarettes I later found in my purse after getting cured. This was one things I never thought was possible.
These two years after I stopped smoking cigarettes I have been able to build a small nest for my daughter saving the amount I had otherwise utilized in buying smoke. This is just a small token of admiration for the amazing gift of new life she gave me by making me quit smoking.
I found my reason to stop smoking in my daughter and learned to live for others, for the one’s we love.
