5 Ways to Keep Your Workspace Healthy and Tidy

Workspace

How much time do you spend in your workplace? Even though we think that office time is just a part of our daily routine, we forget that we spend about half of our waking hours there. You might think that being in your air-conditioned office with a nice bathroom doesn’t affect your overall health, but you’d be wrong. Because offices are such important places in our lives, we owe it to ourselves to make sure they’re healthy and tidy. Here are the best ways to do so:

Stay on track

Even though we all like our offices and desks to be tidy, very few of us actually like cleaning. While it can’t be expected of you to do the vacuuming and dusting every day, you could try to make a schedule to help you stay organized. Go through your paperwork every Monday, check your supplies every Tuesday, water your plants every Wednesday, etc. When you do a little something every day you will notice that you’re better organized, and you won’t feel like you’ve spent hours doing it. Make a weekly schedule and keep it on your desk or in your drawer, and tick every task you’ve finished.

Clean the air

We might feel blessed for not having to work outside during humid winter months or during scorching summer heats, but working indoors has its disadvantages – namely the air we breathe. Office temperatures may vary drastically during the day, and it can be a real challenge to find the right one. While there aren’t any regulations that specify workspace minimum temperature, it’s common to regulate air conditioning for both temperature and humidity. Good air conditioning and ventilation will help you feel better, reduce fatigue symptoms, and increase productivity.

Bring forth the greenery

Having more natural elements in your office will have a good impact on your mood and make your workspace more attractive. The biophilic movement helps you include more natural elements such as natural light, materials, and plants. Not only will plants in your office help you keep your air cleaner, but they will also help reduce stress levels and make you more productive. In California, Apple is working on building a tree-filled headquarters while Facebook employees enjoy their 9-acre rooftop park. While it might not be possible to turn your office into a jungle, you’d be surprised to discover just how much a few potted plants can improve an otherwise dull space.

Master of organization

Office desk

If you don’t want to waste any more time trying to find important papers that were ‘right there’ a minute ago, you need to step up your game and organize better. Everything should have its place: forms, contracts, blank papers, and bills, and when you have a drawer or a box meant for these papers, you’ll be able to find them in a blink of an eye. Paperwork may be boring, but it’s also important, and when you’re not able to provide the right documents when you need them, you’ll come off as unprofessional. If you’re not good at keeping things organized, you could always ask for help and simply follow useful tips.

Healthy choices

Every now and then we feel low in energy and reach for a snack. While crisps, chocolate bars, and sodas are convenient, they’re also bad for your health. If you’re trying to be healthier in your workspace, you should choose to eat and drink healthier. Regular water instead of a sugary soda, an apple and an orange instead of a bag of crisps, and a salad instead of a burger will be great for your health and your mood. Keep fresh fruit in your office so you can eat a banana or some berries instead of processed food, and over time you’ll notice that keeping your weight in check is easier too.

A good looking office is nice, but it can also be good for your health. This is the reason why we should all make an effort to keep our workspaces neat and tidy, and to make sure they’re clean. If spending time at work does nothing for your health other than making you weak, sick, and tired, you can’t give your maximum. When your workspace is tidy, you’ll be happier and healthier, and it will have a positive effect on your overall performance.
